Healing Is A Process Why Do So Many People Treat It As An Event?
As a Natural Health Consultant I counsel clients all the time that just want a quick fix to their health problems, but is there such a thing? With Integrative Medicine we are trained to look for the root problem; what caused the start of the symptoms currently being experienced. What clients often overlook is, they didn’t get sick over night. Just as illness is a process, so is healing so why do so many people treat it as an event?
When I was laid up in the hospital bed after one of my many surgeries the thought crossed my mind of, “How do I get out of here quicker than scheduled and when can I start back with my busy life?” Healing is not that simple! The best way to get well is to understand that a collaboration of multiple healing modalities will get a person well and keep them well. Diet of course is one of the first issues that needed to be addressed. I moved from a world of eating packaged foods to one of fresh organic foods. If I couldn’t pronounce the ingredients of the food I was about to consume then I didn’t eat it. If the list required me to get out a magnifying glass to read all the contents then I chose not to put the product in my body. The next realization was that after a surgery or an illness the body needs time to repair and that required rest, something I wasn’t used to in my fast paced world. My body also required nutritional supplements. Our world today is made up of fabrication including genetically modified foods. So, soil that was once rich in selenium is depleted today, this required by body to supplement for the deficit. In fact, I was surprised to learn the facts on how toxic foods that are consumed today really are. But foods aren’t the only toxic components that affect the body, thoughts are. This is when I learned the importance of mind-body-spirit connection. Pulling from a greater power gave me the positive mental outlook that I needed to stay focused on my end goal, health.
Health is like a highway, we can move in a straight line doing what we know to do or we can venture off down some dusty road not knowing where it will take us. However it’s the dirt road that many times leads us to a far greater place, a place of ease, healing and joy. So just because you learned to take the straight and narrow way doesn’t always mean it is the right way. In either case, time is the equal component that will eventually lead you to a destination. So why rush it? Allow yourself the process that your health deserves because without it, the rest of the events you have planned for your life will never happen.
Transformational Life Story
Jocelyn Buchanan, a resident of Chicago, IL, started singing gospel in her church at a young age. Having a passion for music, she joined a band and began to learn a lot about the music Industry. Jocelyn later went on to receive representation by an independent music label that provided her a great deal of exposure. Stirring up lots of attention, Jocelyn received an offer for her first recording contract with Motown. After spending approximately one year with Motown, Jocelyn recorded some demos that gained the attention of Death Row Records. They were so impressed; they asked her to fly out to Los Angeles, which followed in a contract. However, the music industry did not operate the way Jocelyn expected it to. Due to poor management issues, Jocelyn lost confidence in the music business and it’s then that she decided to leave all together and find a different career to pursue.
Jocelyn tried her hand in a few jobs when finally she registered with a temp agency. That move became the start of a whole new career, one that Jocelyn never anticipated, a position with Oprah Winfrey. Jocelyn’s charm and hard work ethics helped her maintain a position with Oprah and what started out as temporary suddenly became permanent. The most interesting moment about Jocelyn’s 10 years of service is she never once mentioned to Oprah that she was a musician nor did she pursue the music business. Jocelyn became Grant Manager for Oprah’s Angel Network until suddenly one day she received numerous outstanding compliments at a karaoke event when she sang Whitney Houston’s song, “I Will Always Love You.” Jocelyn, having recorded several demos to keep her passion alive, suddenly gained back her confidence and decided to give the music industry another try.
Jocelyn decided to leave behind her grant-writing career and pursue her dream as a recording artist. However, this time she would go about her pursuit differently. Deciding to no longer focus on the big name record labels, Jocelyn, with the assistant of her manager Dre, would write and produce a completely different style of music, one that would impact the world. Jocelyn directed her focus on song-writing techniques using Rhythm and Inspiration in an effort to help bring back the balance in today’s Modern Music. She feels that the world needs more positive role models so as a way of giving back and inspiring others, she creates songs that are empowering and uplifting. Jocelyn’s choice of style allows her to perform a wide variety of music from gospel to worldly, reaching a wide variety of people. Her first known released song was “Brand New Lady,” which landed her the fifth spot on ReverbNation.
However, this new Endeavour has not always been easy. Pushing against the “big dogs” that have deep pockets, Jocelyn has had her share of struggles. But, it’s her heart’s desire that drives her passion. In her spare time, Jocelyn stays motivated and focused by helping and developing other recording artists with their inner passion and drive for the music industry. Jocelyn has made many public appearances and has performed in shows and galas. Her biggest successes have been through email connecting and social media. Recently Jocelyn Co-Wrote a nutrition song with Dawn Burnett called “Right Now.” With over 30 percent of America’s children being overweight or obese, threatening an entire generation with serious chronic illnesses and shortened life spans, Jocelyn and her co-writer wanted to produce a message that would appeal to both children and parents, encouraging them to take control of their lives in hopes of preventing them from becoming another statistic.
“Right Now,” has already captured lots of attention with childhood obesity awareness organizations including Childhood Obesity Awareness Month. Her ultimate goal is to, through her own success and financial blessings, provide financial and emotional support to other artists that are passionate about pursuing their dreams in the music industry. This would allow them to freely express their talents without having to deal with the red tape that is known in the industry today.
Secret Wars…Conquering and Rising Above
Are your thoughts stressing you out? So many people are walking around with bottled up emotions. Due to vulnerability issues, they feel that by keeping their thoughts to themselves they are better off; it provides them with a sense of safety. But how true is this really when it comes to our overall well being?
Did you know that approximately 87% of illnesses stem from our thoughts? Toxic emotions have been linked to migraines, hypertension, strokes, cancer; skin disorders, diabetes, infections, allergies and a whole lot more. So how do we combat these secret wars and rise above our thoughts? The key to conquering your thoughts is to get to the root matter of stress. What is causing your upset? Is it a taxed out overcommitted schedule? Or perhaps health, financial, communication or work issues? What ever the cause may be it’s time you decide to take control. Start with setting priorities; have peace with God, build loving family relationships, find joy in all situations, as they are stepping-stones to our final destination; spend quality time with friends and choose to live a purpose filled life.
After living with 15 years of toxicity in a fragmented relationship I decided it was time to make the choice for health. The thoughts that I held inside during my years in a trapped abusive marriage caused havoc on my body. The decision to pursue a degree in alternative medicine was my turning point. I learned that our thoughts are stored at a cellular level and when negative they can affect our DNA and create disease. That explained why I was getting sick every year during my marriage. Once I decided that I was designed for greatness, exited the marriage, moved and followed healing steps to replace my thoughts and reduce stress it’s then that my life was transformed from the inside out.
My connection and focus on God; my higher power that fueled my intuition; that divine connection led me to meditation, awareness, healthy eating, attitude of gratitude, fruitful relationships, self acceptance and forgiveness. Instead of surviving I was now thriving and living with full divine purpose and awareness. What once was important suddenly became not as important as I delved into my true passion, to pay it forward and teach others how to heal themselves.
So, are you ready to join the transformation and rise above to your new spiritual level? It’s time to empower yourself as so many of the greats have. Believing that everything in life shows up at precisely the perfect timing whether it is a lesson or blessing. You are always at the right place, nothing has surpassed you because when it’s your timing to reach your fulfilled purpose if you have done your part it will happen and nothing will strip it away; it’s your chance to own it, your divine God given destiny. It’s time to believe that you too have been designed for greatness!
FROM THE HEART
America is founded on successful marriage, so what has happened to our value systems? Values today have become watered down creating a taking society instead of a giving one. In America there is now a divorce every 13 seconds and studies reveal that a shocking 50% or higher for first time marriages end in divorce. So what is creating the decision to split?
There are a multitude of conditions that can cause a break up from sex to money and everything in between. So what are some ways to prevent Splits Ville? The most important tip is to make sure you attract the right person into your life. Remember, it takes two to love and the only love you own is the love you give away. You must first love yourself in a non-egotistical way before you can love someone else. Have you ladies ever heard, “Ask what kind of a relationship he has with his mother?” The reason for this is if he doesn’t have a good relationship with his mother than chances are he might have a respect issue for women. Was he abused? Abuse can create a trust issue with either party. To fully heal from abuse it takes years of therapy and self help. Our thoughts are stored at a cellular level and if negative we carry those thoughts and experiences with us throughout the years. It takes positive experiences and reprogramming the cells for behavior to change.
Another important tip to consider when choosing your partner is to check out their spending habits. The hidden secret to spending money is effect not cause. Money and happiness are totally different. There are plenty of people that have lots of nice stuff and money yet they lack true happiness. There is always a driving force behind the need to spend money. Did the person lack stuff at a young age? Did they grow up poor? Were they used to having things handed to them? Are they spending as a form of medication for previous hurts that happened along the way? Whatever the reason may be it’s important to talk about money before deciding to get together.
So many people today are existing rather than living life. The saying is true, “What has your attention has you.” In today’s society so many people are wrapped up in technology from computers to cell phones and let’s not forget TV. We live in a busy tapped out world where there are so many activity options to choose from. If you are constantly giving your attention to electronics and other priorities over your partner then you are walking on thin ice. For a marriage or relationship to last there must be focus on each other to create that strong connection.
Equally as important as connection is sex. There are two different kinds of sex mind and body. Let’s face it readers if you get together for the one true reason, the heart, then everything else will stand the test of time. If your heart is in the right place, you will attract the right sex into your life. So the question is, are you getting hitched for superficial reasons or is your heart taking over the lust?
Designed For Greatness, Everybody Has A Story!
I look around, I cannot see; does that mean it is not meant to be? How many times have you been striving for something important and you were close to giving up because you couldn’t see the results, but instead you decided to press towards the target coming out a winner in the end? Well the same thing happened with Gabrielle the gold medal Gymnast as she told her story on “Good Morning America” this morning that she almost gave up because she was missing home but after a long conversation with her Mom she decided to press on becoming a gold medal winner.
What ever your story is, what ever you are striving for, you must never give up. When you wake up every morning and the passion is burning in your belly causing you to push just a little bit harder, that is a message that you must keep moving forward. Maybe it is a new connection with someone or a sign you see as you are driving down the road, no matter how hard you try to push your desire to the side and quit, you can’t. Where did your thought or idea come from? How did it get there? It is a gift that was given to you in the moments when you chose to silence your mind, becoming more conscious and aware of your true heart desire.
I am often asked, “What makes you do what you do?” The answer is simple, I have come close to death a few times and the more that happens, the clearer my message and purpose becomes. We are all here to collectively make a difference in the world, touching each other’s heart one person at a time. When I leave this world I want to be known as making a difference. From working with the homeless to providing recording artist support to the Whole Planet Foundation, these are just a few ways that I have been able to pay it forward. No matter how hard I try to stop, the more I meditate and search deep within myself, the more ideas start flooding my mind. It starts as a thought and very quickly develops into a tangible concept for others. Am I just special? We all are and we all hold the gift, the power to choose our thoughts and the ability to implement them into something greater.
So what is your story? What concept have you been holding onto? What ever it is let the turn of the New Year, 2013, be the year you decide to exercise your “super hero powers” and positively impact others lives forever!

Diabetic Treatments
Diabetes is a disease which involves the body’s inability to process or use energy providing nutrients in food. Patients experience a lack in their body’s ability to produce enough insulin allowing glucose movement to cells, either because of a deficient amount of insulin which is made by the pancreas or their cells lack of ability to respond to the insulin. There are three types of diabetes: type-1 involves the destruction of insulin-producing cells of the pancreas, type-2 is the most common form and involves the proper production of insulin in the pancreas and the lack of cells responsiveness. When the glucose can’t enter the cells, it stays in the blood, creating high blood sugar levels. The final type is referred to as gestational diabetes where certain pregnancy-related hormones make the body resistant to insulin. In any type, when there is too much glucose in the blood and not enough in the cells, the body is required to work over time to survive, which can cause damage to organs.
Diabetes diagnosis is on the rise and a large part of it is due to the foods we are consuming. A well balanced, nutritious diet provides approximately 50-60% of calories from carbohydrates, approximately 10-20% of calories from protein, and less than 30% of calories from fat. The number of calories depends upon the individual, but they are required to be distributed over the course of the day to prevent surges in glucose, so skipping meals is not the way to go about losing weight or eating properly. In fact if you carry weight in your belly then are you are headed for diabetes and are already insulin resistant. The good news is that you can still turn things around. This is why it is important to consume organic or locally grown fruits and vegetables. Many people today are not getting enough daily intake of wholesome foods, this also includes whole grains and nuts. Many commercial foods today are GMO (genetically modified), this is where they take a gene of a fish and cross it with a strawberry for example. Commercial foods today don’t even taste like they used to compared to my grandparent’s generation and we wonder why so many people are getting diagnosed with food allergies. When you eat GMO foods and you develop and allergy you are not even certain what you are allergic to because you need to know what genes have been crossed in the food. Once you consume these foods it is hard to remove the toxins from your bodies cells. So don’t play around and wait until you get extremely sick, take action today and purchase “Whole Foods” your life depends on it. When purchasing fish make sure you purchase wild not farm raised and buy from a supplier that offers low mercury because heavy metals can cause your neurotransmitters to become stuck and now you have brain issues and unclear thinking. Purchase meats that have no added hormones or antibiotics and always watch your portion sizes. Since your body is so out of balance in the case of insulin resistance and diabetes you will need to take nutritional supplements.
For an integrative approach to diabetes consider Traditional Chinese Medicine. This form of medicine provides an alternative way of diagnosing and treating diabetes. Traditional Chinese Medicine is an ancient health system designed to heal based on the concept of harmony and balance. It looks at patterns of disharmony, which include all resenting signs and symptoms as well as patients’ emotional and psychological responses. Herbal remedies have also been helpful in managing diabetes, fenugreek, bilberry, garlic and onions all have been known to assist with managing and lowering blood sugar levels. You want to be careful taking herbs on your own because they can have a cross affect with pharmaceutical drugs.
If diabetes is left untreated or is improperly treated it can lead to blindness, kidney disease and the loss of limbs. The key to this disease is prevention which can be provided through the daily regulation of diet. Vitamin supplementation is highly recommended but is less effective if diet sources are not reviewed. The proper diet that should be consumed is a low glycemic index one. Daily regulation of exercise is equally important so find something active that you enjoy to do and that way you will stick to it. Whether you choose main stream medicine or natural approaches, it’s important to make a decision to take control of your health.
